Hellboy, originated from Dark Horse Comics, Seed of Destruction by Mike Magnolia.
The Hellboy film came out in July 27th, 2004, starring Ron Pearlman as Hellboy a demonic beast and directed by Guillermo del Toro.
Pearlman took the Hellboy character and brought a larger than life Hellboy that eased you into Hellboy being a regular, except he is a demonic Super Hero who qiute quietly goes to any lengths to save our world, with unrequited love for Liz Sherman (Selma Blair) whose power with fire is unmatched, pyrokinetic powers deluxe.
There is Grigori Rasputin (Karel Roden), the Russian Mystic who want to make Hellboy have the demons that linger just outside of our view take over our world.
Rasputin brings a demon hellhound Sammael (Brian Steele) to ravage earth, who when destroyed resurrects himself by two.
Abe Sapien (Doug Jones who plays various roles in Hellboy 2) (Abe's voice is David Hyde Pierce), a psychic amphibious humanoid who lives in a large tank, loves rotten eggs, is a genius and has breathing apparatus to be on land and is Hellboys. road dog and friend and a mentor of sorts.
Officer Karl Ruprecht Kroenen, another truly bad guy who is a wicked assassin, wielding two long blades that spring from his sleeves with relentless precision.Seems his body is bloodless and made of sand, hard to kill or stop.
An evil universe not unlike H.P. Lovecraft's, battles to invade and destroy and rule the ashes of our to be lost world....the response is the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense (BPRD) Hellboy, Liz and Abe the heroes that battle "the things that go bump in the night"...
Tom Manning, FBI director (perfectly played by Jeffery Tambor), tries to oversee the BPRD, but is usually the butt of one of Hellboy's jokes and generally ingnore and ridiculed.
The nefarious bad guys are Rasputin, Sammael, Officer Kroenen, Lisa Haupstein and the Behemoth wishing to lay our planet to waste and be inhabited by demons and odious creatures.
Professor Bloom (John Hurt) is the scientist who finds and raises Hellboy his true name, Trevor Bruttenholm.
If you haven't, watch the film, it is done well, great actors and plot and will give you the entire plot as i have just scratched the surface here....
